Sundown Ranch Lion Park was started in 1995. Situated in the North West Province -close to Rustenburg , Pilanesberg game reserve and Sun city resort. Sundown Ranch Lion Park currently has 42 lions, including 13 lions under the age of 18 months.

The main purpose and motivation behind our lion park is to bring the lion to the people. Unlike driving through game reserves and looking for lions, here the public will be able to handle small cubs and have their photo taken with them. Visitors receive a guided and informative tour of the lions in the lion park. On Feeding days, visitors can see lions be fed. At the right time of day, visitors can even hear lions roar.

Ensuring the presence of The African Lion into the Next Generation

Over the years, at the lion park, we have been privileged to be visited by many celebrities. Such as David Copperfield, Nick Faldo, Steffi Graff, and many more.

The lion park is also geared up to cater for special functions, bear this in mind if you plan to visit us and speak to one of our staff members to organize an amazing bonfire under the African sky.

For lions in Africa there are many dangers threatening their existence. Unfortunately the greatest of these dangers is man himself. The biggest threat to lions comes from poachers, who hunt the lions for various monetary gains. Furthermore, during periods of drought the survival of cubs is limited due to the shortage of food, (If you refer to the ' Lion Research Info ' page you will notice that at feeding time it becomes "each lion for himself") w hich means the weakest lose out i.e. the cubs. In good seasons, in the wild, lion cubs stand a 30-40% chance of survival. In captivity this survival rate is raised to 70-100%. Our main goal is to preserve the lion for future generations. We try doing this by showing visitors and tourists our earnestness to preserve one of Africa 's greatest, the African Lion.
